Using a virtual private network is easier than it might seem at first glance, with some VPNs being more user-friendly than others.
All you need to do is sign up with the VPN service provider of your choice, install their VPN apps on your devices, create a secure VPN connection, and then use the internet as usual.
Most VPN services offer software for all types of devices and operating systems, including Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android, and Linux.
There is also an option to install software on a router, which means that all devices connected to the router will automatically pass through the secure VPN connection.
Here’s a quick guide to signing up and using a VPN service:
HOW DO I start using a VPN?
Buy a subscription to a trusted VPN service
It is important to choose a good VPN service provider that is secure, reliable, fast and user-friendly. We’ve tested dozens of VPN service providers that are currently available on the market. All the VPNs on our site also offer a money-back option, so you can try their service for free.
Download the VPN app for your device
After purchasing a quality VPN service, you will download a VPN app (client) depending on the system you are using (Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, Linux,…). The necessary software can be found directly on the service provider’s website. Never download installation files from other sources as they may contain malware (malicious software). On mobile devices, the site will navigate you directly to Google Play or the Apple Store.
Install the VPN app on your device
Run the installation file and follow the instructions you see on the screen. Usually, you’ll just need to choose the folder where you want to install the app. For Android and iPhone mobile devices, the app will install automatically when you click the Install button (in Google Play / Apple Store).
Launch the VPN app
After successful installation, launch the application and enter your login details (usually an email address and password) or a login code, which you can find directly in your account or in your email inbox.
Choose the server you want to connect to
From the list of available countries, select the server you want to connect to. VPN apps usually also offer a “fast connection” feature that automatically selects the fastest server. Such a server is usually located closest to your physical location.
Activate your VPN connection
In the VPN app, click the toggle switch or button labeled “Connect” or “Turn on” to create a VPN connection. Your IP address (and virtual location) will be changed to an anonymous IP address of the VPN server’s choice. From now on, your data and all internet traffic will be encrypted and protected.
